Brazing Alloys

General Purpose Silver Brazing Alloys

Silver Brazing Alloys

Our General Purpose Silver Brazing Alloys are suitable for a wide range of industrial metal joining applications and are used when joining dissimilar parent metals e.g. stainless steel, mild steels, brasses, bronzes, and copper in a wide range of environments from Industrial Cooling to Aerospace, Food, Pharmaceutical and Military applications.

The free-flowing properties of these alloys, coupled with good joint strengths mean that they find use when joining dissimilar parent metals.

The use of a suitable flux is required with all of these alloys and the most popular of the silver brazing alloy rods can be supplied with a specially formulated flux coating which offers consistency, safety, and convenience when compared to using a separate flux paste.  See our flux information page for more guidance.

Table 1 below details the alloys that are silicon-free and generally preferred by UK manufacturers.

Flux-Coated Silver Brazing Alloy Rods

Flux Coated Brazing Rods

The most popular of the silver brazing alloys can be supplied with an especially formulated flux coating which is designed to be particularly fluid and active as the flux is applied relatively late in the brazing cycle.  These rods offer the advantages of consistency, safety and convenience when compared to using a bare rod and separate flux paste.

These rods are typically supplied with a white flexible flux coating, however other colours may be available and it is also possible to apply printing to the rods.

We can also offer different ratios of flux to rod dependent on your requirements - please contact us for further details on the products available.

Special Application Silver Silver Brazing Alloys

Where the application requires an alloy with specific properties we can offer the following alloys.

Table 2

Special Silver Brazing Alloy

Our H0 alloy has excellent resistance characteristics with good mechanical strength and electrical conductivity.

H7TN is suitable when a high level of corrosion resistance is required, particularly on stainless steels in wet, oxygenated conditions and is also suitable for furnace brazing.

Our M20N, M10N and M19MN alloys are designed for the brazing of difficult parent metals such as cast iron and cemented carbides. M19MN has the additional benefit of being able to wet graphite containing materials and can be used for the brazing of tungsten carbide tip tools as well as difficult parent metals such as grey cast iron.

Copper Phosphorus Brazing Alloys

Phosphorus Brazing Alloys

This range of alloys is suitable for the flux free brazing of copper and high content copper alloys (i.e. brasses and bronzes) particularly in the refrigeration, air conditioning and medical gas industries.

Alloys with high phosphorus contents are less ductile than those with lower phosphorus and higher silver contents. For applications where optimum mechanical strength or resistance to vibration is required the lower phosphorus alloys are preferred, i.e. Phos 5, Phos 2 and Phos 0R.

Phos 0.2 is suitable for copper to copper joints in sanitary, heating and gas installations.

These alloys should not be used with ferrous or nickel containing parent metals as this will result in brittle joints.
